Review of "The Good Son" by You-Jeong Jeong

This month, I read The Good Son by You-Jeong Jeong, a psychological thriller that follows a disturbed young man in South Korea as he untangles a family drama unlike any other. Originally published in 2016, The Good Son was a number one bestseller in Korea and was the first of the author's books to appear in English. Her work has now been translated into seven languages.

The synopsis reads [in part]: “Early one morning, twenty-five-year-old Yu-jin wakes up to a strange metallic smell. He soon discovers his mother's murdered body, lying in a pool of blood at the bottom of the stairs of their stylish Seoul duplex … Thus begins Yu-jin's frantic three-day search to uncover what happened that night, and to finally learn the truth about himself and his family.”

The first chapter of the book takes you straight into the premise and moves at a lightning fast pace from there. It features an abundance of plot twists, an unreliable narrator and tons of blood. The back of the book has a review which compares the author to Stephen King, and I can see why they made the comparison. This book is extremely entertaining to say the least!

I would highly recommend this book to horror fans looking for something new, especially fans of slasher movies and pulpy crime thrillers. This book has got to be a 10/10, and it's easy to see why this author has been so highly awarded.

This book is currently available for purchase on our website. Thank You for reading!
